Slack (Poem)

(after Catullus’s “Vivamus, mea Lesbia, atque amemus …”)

Get up

drink Lipton tea

grab those bags of

Cheddar Jalapeño Cheetos

we bought at

Wal-Mart

go back

to bed

They wanna run around

(empire-building insects)

pumped full of

“go-go juice” caffeine

adrenaline

big self-help talk

thunderous bravado

(empty howling winds)

hey

let ‘em

burn each other out

with any method of their

choosing

Ten bags of crap snacks

ten consecutive hours of Marx Bros

TV movie marathon

your ten thousand kisses of salty

orange

gratitude

raining on my cheeks like

the springtime

drizzle that

pours down

outside

for real

Yeah

you like it

like this

too

don’t you

Yes

I mean

you:

slack and slothful and splendid

as myself

if not

more so
